About Us
For over ten years, the Solid Waste Resource Renewal Group (SWRRG) at the Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station had provided leadership and coordination in innovative waste reduction and recycling focus areas such electronics recycling, food waste recycling, paint recycling and green purchasing for human health. Our current primary focus area is the area of food waste and organic waste recycling, where we lead a statewide initiative whose objective is to bring together all the elements necessary for a statewide/regional industry which manufactures bioproducts from waste and which produces jobs, economic stimulus, and greenhouse gas reductions for the state and region.
Another current focus area is the area of school and higher education recycling. Robust and visible recycling programs, from bottles/cans and paper recycling through food waste recycling, are crucial to fostering future generations who will understand sustainable resource management. We provide a range of services to schools and higher education institutions, including waste audits, and training on how to establish successful recycling or reuse programs.
SWRRG operates with funding from the United States Environmental Protection Agency and a range of private sponsors, led by Premier Management. Additional major support comes in the form of hosting by the Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES). Click here to view the complete list of funders.
SWRRG is pleased to cooperate with a sister organization, Food and Organics Recycling for New Jersey (FOR NJ), which developed from its food waste initiative and which serves as a trade, professional, and stakeholder organization that promotes the expansion of markets for recycled organic products, connects interested parties, and enlists public support for food and organics composting and recycling as appropriate responses to various environmental and sustainability issues.
